Vocabulary Parade 2017

Every year, TIS Primary participates in a special celebration to jazz up vocabulary instruction and to get everyone in the school community talking about words.   The annual vocabulary parade is an exciting way to boost logophilia (the love of words) among students and provide a focus on an academic dress-up event. Students and staff enjoy having the opportunity to showcase their creativity by devising far-out costumes.

Schools around the country have been holding vocabulary parades for years, based on the amazing picture book Miss Alaineus: A Vocabulary Disaster by Debra Frasier. In the book, the main character, Sage, redeems herself after a hilarious vocabulary snafu with an award-winning costume in her school’s vocabulary parade. This book has been an inspiration for Teachers and students here at TIS.

The Vocabulary Parade took place on December 11th during 7th period in the Secondary building.  The secondary students and parents encouraged Primary School participants as they paraded in their home made costumes.
