Video Lessons – Workshop PREPARATION NOTES

Video Lessons – Workshop PREPARATION NOTES

Friday, January 23, 4:00-5:00pm

Room: Building A (next to Gym/Cafeteria), Second Floor, Room 2-2-7 (Secondary ELC Language Support)

Facilitator: Brian Crowley, Secondary English Language Center

It is my pleasure to offer some discussion points and activities to take us beyond the mere ‘mechanical’ aspects of the learning from the video lessons. My hope is that each of us, myself included, will gain some kind of new insight, question, or approach that will enhance the learning in our classrooms!

An hour is very short! I am dividing it into 4 parts, which you can read, below. It is very important that we start on time. The room will be open from 3:45, so please try to arrive early, ready for ACTION AND DISCUSSION!

  1. A Lesson in R-E-S-P-E-C-T (Do you know the song, by Aretha Franklin? Try Baidu!)
  2. The TIS Experience: What Makes us Special?
  3. Questions and Insights from the Video Lessons
  4. What’s the Right Answer???

In addition to your regular preparatory homework of viewing the video lessons and answering the questions from ITTT, I ask that you also complete the following questions/reflections, and send me your written thoughts (or spoken, or visual, if you prefer to send an audio file, or video file!) to brian@tedais.org. Please send these by January 21!!!

  1. What are the key elements of an effective lesson? (How do you define ‘Effective Lesson’?)
  2. What are the main roles/responsibilities, respectively, of a ‘teacher’ and a ‘student’?
  3. What do you make of the statement: ‘We are all teachers, and we are all students’?
  4. Describe how, in your classes, students teach, and also how you, yourself, assume a humble posture of learning?
  5. ***Please offer a metaphor, a saying, or a motto (as many as you like!) that expresses an understanding of education (what it is/what it does/how it’s done/….).

 SEE YOU SOON!!!
