Comets Latest News

Our Comets U19 Girls Volleyball Team gave their all in an epic match at TIS/Tianjin on September 9.  Against a team that was at least a head taller, and used to spiking from behind the 3-meter line, our Comets missed victory by the slimmest of margins in the 5th set.  But it was a true moral victory, as the team showed tenacity and perseverance.  A Comet all-time record was set by Na Yun, who in the second set hit an incredible 18consecutive winning serves, sowing havoc and total confusion on the opposite side of the net.

The Comets U19 Boys Volleyball Team is in full swing again.  Many senior players  have graduated, so we have many players new to the game.  With only three returning players, our team has been training hard.  We have spent much of our time on skills, and will soon move to advanced tactics.  Our season is off to a good start, with our boys playing hard though narrowly losing their matches.  We will soon become a force to be reckoned with.  COMETS on 3 … 1, 2, 3, COMETS!

Our Comets Under-14 Boys Soccer team played their first game of the season at home against TIS/Tianjin.  They had done well in practice, getting their fitness levels up and sharpening a few skills, ready for the new soccer season.

As the game got underway the COMETS quickly got into  their stride showing good control, passing the ball well and using the space to good effect.  They had more than a good share of the play and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions before finally taking the lead through a great strike from Kyong Chan midway through the first half.  Just before the half time whistle, a lofted ball sneaked under Johnny’s crossbar to draw our opponents level.

With the score at 1-1 the Comets became a little apprehensive and nervous at the beginning of the second half, and gave away a soft goal when defending a corner.  Down 2-1, the team regained their early composure and fighting spirit, began stringing together some good passes, and finally succeeded in drawing level through another goal from Kyong Chan.

2-2 was a good result considering we were also trying the players in different positions to see how things might work for future games.  I must say Mr Moallem and I (Mr O’Shea) love coaching this squad of dedicated players who really try to work together as a team.
