At the end of each term the literary team celebrates the accomplishments of the students. We understand that each student has a number of responsibilities that must be tended to each day. Math, Science, Music, Art, P.E., Social Studies and Language Arts all have requirements that have to be met. So it is particularly rewarding when students meet their AR goals.
This year (2017 – 2018), nearly half of the primary school either met their AR goal or exceeded it. The Literary Team has been consistently focusing on literacy goals along with the vision of TIS to increase literacy in our primary school. Reading provides adventures, and takes you places that you’ve never been, so the literary team decided to take students down the rabbit hole into the world of Alice in Wonderland. Because so many students were invited to the party, the Celebrations were broken up in to two different Tea Parties; Upper Primary and Lower Primary.
Students were given Alice in Wonderland themed invitations and asked to wear a silly hat. The invitation encouraged them not to be late to a “Mad About Books” tea party. The students were greeted with an Alice in Wonderland themed table including tea, fruit, and decorated cookies, thanks to our PFA mom Mimi.
Principal Williamson came dressed to impress with her colorful outfit and congratulated the students on their amazing work. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to be honored for working diligently to reach their AR goals. This also excites students about books and reading. They will work even harder to be a part of Term 2’s AR Celebration. Where will the next adventure lead them?
